The Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads (HHHR) is a nonprofit organization that provides compassionate respite and end-of-life care in a peaceful, homelike environment. We offer expert care and emotional support for patients and their families during one of life’s most challenging times. The Marketing & Development Director serves as the fundraising leader for Hospice House of Hampton Roads (HHHR) and leads fundraising and donor relations activities, as well as implementing a comprehensive marketing plan to maintain census and meet budget requirements. The Director works with the Board of Directors to position HHHR as a philanthropic destination and to secure major gifts and increased annual donations.
This role oversees the management and execution of the campaign effort, in collaboration with the board and volunteers.
- Manage portfolio of current and prospective donors. Conduct two to four in-person donor visits per week.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects for capital campaigns and annual giving.
- Lead efforts to engage the Board of Directors in fundraising and related marketing activities.
- Create and implement a comprehensive annual development plan supporting short- and long-term philanthropic needs.
- Develop annual departmental budget aligned with the development plan; create and monitor monthly reports and provide forecasting.
- Craft fundraising proposals for individuals, corporations and foundations for annual and campaign priorities.
- Plan, manage and execute cultivation, stewardship and other fundraising events.
- Ensure donor data accuracy and timely entry into donor software, including gift processing, acknowledgements, records, and mailing lists.
- Develop and implement fundraising policies and processes for HHHR.
- Maintain relationships with key referral sources to generate new marketing referrals.
- Create and implement a marketing plan to achieve monthly census goals as directed by the HHHR Director.
- Develop and coordinate community outreach and education to raise awareness of HHHR and meet census goals.
- Collaborate on all marketing collateral, including the website.
- Perform other duties as assigned by executive leadership to advance the mission of HHHR.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strategic and creative thinking to raise funds and manage priorities; collaborate with staff and volunteers.
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to enhance community engagement and HHHR visibility.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
- Understanding of the needs and challenges of others, including executive and volunteer leadership.
The Experience You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- 5+ years of experience in fundraising and marketing with documented success.
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with donors and community partners.
- Commitment to HHHR’s mission.
- Flu Vaccinated or equivalent; vaccine status may be required per policy.
