Vertical Lathe Operator
Job Description
Join our team as a Vertical Lathe Operator, where you will operate a Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL), a large CNC machine specialized in machining heavy, large-diameter cylindrical parts. Your role is critical in turning these components against a stationary cutting tool, ensuring the creation of high-quality, accurate metal parts for industries such as aerospace and energy. Mastery in blueprint reading, G-code, precision measurement, setup, and troubleshooting is essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities- Set up, start, monitor, and observe the VTL machine to ensure efficient operation.
- Interpret blueprints, select tooling, set up fixtures, and install cutting tools for accurate machining.
- Use precision instruments like micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges to inspect parts for required tolerances.
- Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Operate forklifts and cranes for safe and efficient loading and unloading of large components.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and machining experience.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand geometric tolerances.
- Proficiency with CNC controls, specifically FANUC, and G-code.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with lathe operations and machining processes.
- Familiarity with material handling equipment such as forklifts and cranes.

Work EnvironmentOur work environment is a manufacturing facility with an emphasis on cleanliness and safety. We maintain a casual dress code, fostering a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional overtime on Saturdays based on workflow needs. We employ around 100 staff members, promoting a collaborative and communicative workplace.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr.
