Range Maintenance and Support Technician

Description

Range Maintenance and Support Technicians operate, maintain, and support 17 ranges across 350 acres in Virginia Beach, VA, including static and dynamic indoor/outdoor small arms ranges, explosives testing ranges, and MOUT facilities.

• Write correspondence in military format, such as Navy Correspondence Manual, when required.
• Complete required training related to job responsibilities.
• Cross-train with other contracted positions to cover absences (exempt/salaried positions).
• Perform data entry on PC using Microsoft Windows and Office.
• Maintain ranges, facilities, and equipment, ensuring timely repairs to prevent training delays or mission impacts.
• Inspect, test, maintain, and repair target systems, troubleshooting as needed.
• Fabricate target structures, obstacles, and gates, including hollow core, steel, and marine-grade watertight doors and hatches.
• Manage inventory of target types and maintenance parts to ensure readiness.
• Conduct pre- and post-training inspections, reporting damages.
• Maintain and repair electronic range and target systems, understanding sensor functions and calibrating as needed.
• Assist in preparing ranges for inspections, ensuring safety and compliance.
• Set up and take down target systems for training events.
• Participate in range cleanup and environmental compliance efforts.
• Build and weld basic target structures from wood and steel.
• Schedule range maintenance and usage using the Range Scheduling tool.

Requirements

• Possess and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
• Maintain a valid state driver’s license and obtain necessary certifications for equipment operation (forklifts, trucks, loaders, etc.).
• Pass drug screening and adhere to FAR , with random screenings during employment.
• Lift and carry at least 70 lbs unassisted.
• Basic skills in structural work, carpentry, welding, pneumatic tools, electrical work, reading construction drawings, and computer skills.
