Position: Technology Services Intern at City of Virginia Beach

The Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Technology Services Intern to assist our technology department with day-to-day operational tasks and internal support. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain hands‑on experience in IT operations, documentation, and user support in a professional environment.

Expected Dates

May 29th 2025 - August 22 2025

Expected Schedule

Monday-Friday, 20-30 hours/week, flexible for the ideal candidate.

Required Attachments

A brief statement (1-2 paragraphs) describing interest in internship and what is hoped to gain from it. Resume, if available (can include school activities, volunteer work, or personal tech projects). Teacher, advisor, or mentor reference (optional).

Required Education

Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Duties
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the organization’s technology asset inventory, including tagging, tracking, and documentation of hardware and software assets.
  • Support the development, revision, and organization of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflow documentation.
  • Conduct data cleanup and organization projects across various systems (e.g., shared drives, databases, or internal documentation platforms).
  • Monitor the shared IT mailbox to help triage incoming user requests and provide initial responses or route tickets to appropriate team members.
  • Provide basic user support and troubleshooting assistance under the guidance of senior IT staff.
  • Assist with onboarding/offboarding processes, such as preparing devices and accounts for new or departing users.
  • Perform routine checks, reporting, and monitoring of systems or logs as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the department’s IT operational goals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Teams), Google Workspace, or equivalent productivity tools.
  • Interest in IT operations, systems administration, or technical support.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
