Anticipated Hiring Salary: $90,357 - $115,000 / Annually

OVERVIEW OF POSITIONThis role manages one or more IT projects for the City of Aurora by creating, coordinating, and successfully executing plans in support of enterprise modernization initiatives for the Information Technology Department Program Management Office (IT PMO). The role assists with the evolution of the IT PMO's project management methodology and tools, mentors others, and acts as project management subject matter expert for the IT Department staff.
Project Managers work closely with the PMO Manager, key department project resources, IT Business Solution Architects, key IT personnel, implementation vendors, and product vendors to deliver IT projects for the City of Aurora IT Department.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related field from an accredited college/university.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience managing multiple technology projects, including a minimum of 3 years' experience leading technology projects that involved multiple large-scale technology components, both on-premise and off-premise.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business, computer science or a related field preferred
- Experience with executing IT projects/programs relating to the support of operations for local governmental Departments (Police, Fire, Water, Parks, Information Technology, Library, Finance, Public Works, Human Resources) is preferred.
Knowledge:
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of project management fundamentals, process design, project estimation, and budgeting.
- Must be conversant with current project management methodologies, as well as the Systems Development Life Cycle (SLDC) for waterfall, agile and hybrid approaches.
- Must have a working knowledge of the steps involved in IT business solutions procurements, vendor management, contract management, system implementations, and transition to operations.
Skills:
- Soft skills (leadership, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, team building).
- Hard skills (planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, issue management, quality control, Project Management tool proficiency, and vendor and contract management) to guide projects from start to finish, ensuring the vendor and City project team meet goals on time and within budget, while keeping teams aligned and stakeholders informed.
Abilities:
- Strategic thinking.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management, including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials.
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Able to manage multiple projects, objectives, and competing priorities.
- Adaptability and strong organizational skills to drive successful project outcomes.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute is strongly preferred.
