ResponsibilitiesA Day in the Life of a Human Resources Specialist: The Human Resources (HR) Specialist plays a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture by partnering with managers and leadership to support employee relations and performance management. This role is responsible for addressing employee concerns; managing complaints related to policy violations, harassment, and discrimination; and conducting thorough, objective workplace investigations to recommend appropriate actions.
The HR Specialist will assist in developing, implementing, and communicating HR policies and procedures, as well as delivering training on key HR topics and best practices.
- Partner with managers and leadership to address employee concerns, foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture aligned with company values, and guide all aspects of performance management, including coaching, performance improvement plans (PIPs) and corrective action.
- Respond to and manage employee complaints, allegations of policy violations, and concerns related to harassment, discrimination, and other workplace concerns.
- Conduct timely, objective and thorough workplace investigations; document findings, maintain appropriate records, and recommend or support implementation of corrective or disciplinary action.
- Assist with the development, updating and communicating HR policies and procedures
- Assist with the development and delivery of training presentations, both virtually or in person on various HR topics and guidance on company policies, procedures and employee relations best practices.
- Ensure understanding of and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Prepare documentation for legal proceedings, unemployment claims, and government agency inquiries (EEOC, DFEH, DOL, etc.).
- Review and respond to unemployment claims; and support regional management in preparing documentation and participation in unemployment hearings.
- Work with payroll and benefits teams to resolve employee matters as needed.
- Coordinate and conduct exit interviews with departing employees
- Participate in audits, reporting and HR projects as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and ensures labor law posters are current across the region.
- Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries for employment records.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field; equivalent experience (5+ years in HR) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Proven experience conducting workplace investigations and handling sensitive employee matters with discretion, fairness and sound judgement.
