Blue Pearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician.
Schedule:
Monday–Thursday 8am–6pm.
- Sign-on bonus up to $3,000 for qualified LVT candidates.
- Pay: $21.00 – $40.50 per hour. This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.
- Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.
- Competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends (based on a 4-hour minimum).
- Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.00 shift differential
- Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 shift differential
- Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.00 shift differential

Role and ResponsibilitiesA Blue Pearl Oncology Technician is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task. Good communication skills and compassion are essential. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients and supporting the clinician with patient care and client communication.
- Perform physical exams and monitor vital signs, including heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
- Perform phlebotomy and place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
- Calculate basic medical math and prepare materials for chemotherapy administration.
- Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents; safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents; check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
- Shave and wrap for IV catheter placement for chemotherapy infusion; knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and response actions.
- Admit and discharge oncology patients with appropriate client education on home care, medication administration, and side effects.
- Maintain comprehension of veterinary medical terminology and communicate with other professionals using appropriate terms.
- Address client concerns and facilitate incoming calls; have knowledge of tumor types and oncology diagnostic work-up protocols.
- Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with ASA I or II classifications.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in assigned roles by the clinician or supervisor.
- Maintain hospital operations including stocking and cleaning.
- Minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital preferred.
- Self-motivated, capable of multi-tasking, and compassionate with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced oncology setting and support clinicians and clients effectively.
