The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is eagerly seeking to hire four Jail & Re-Entry Clinician II to join our Adult Correctional Services team! The ideal candidate will have experience in Behavioral Health Correctional Services working with adults with serious mental illness and or co-occurring disorders; and experience utilizing the Diagnostic Statistical Manual 5 TR (DSM 5 TR) and working in an Adult Correctional Center.
Adult Correctional Services (ACS) assists offenders with behavioral health or co-occurring disorders to access educational and discharge planning services while in the custody of the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office. ACS services increase treatment compliance both in the jail and in the community, provide intensive re-entry services, reduce recidivism, and foster a commitment to a drug‑free, violence‑free, crime‑free lifestyle; reducing the need for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, all while allowing individuals to live in the community with the highest degree of independence.
This position is eligible to receive a $5,000 annual stipend to be paid in installments over the 26 pay periods.
Duties- Conduct mental health screenings for all individuals processed into Virginia Beach Correctionহন Center in order to identify the presence of behavioral health disorders requiring ongoing treatment.
- Coordinate care with jail staff and medical provider; monitor progress with treatment provided by the jail medical provider.
- When clinically appropriate, advocate for diversionary psychiatric treatment and present clinical necessity for inpatient hospitalization during arraignment.
- Provide individualized planning to address potential barriers to successful transition back into the community.
- Conduct mental health and substance use educational groups with the goal of developing skills for successful community living.
- Develop a re‑entry plan and conduct discharge planning that includes linkage to community resources for inmates that are released into the community.
- Conduct goal‑directed learning activities for adult inmates with behavioral health disorders to assist with knowledge of how to utilize community resources to meet their needs.
- Complete required documentation and ensure that filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the required timeframe.
A $4,000 hiring bonus is also being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $1,000 will traiter awarding in the first paycheck.
- $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

Work SchedulesMonday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Monday - Friday, 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm – eligible for ….. shift differential pay.
