Arcadis is looking for a Water Wastewater Project Engineer to join our growing team in either Virginia Beach, Virginia, Arlington, Virginia or Hanover, Maryland!

Responsibilities

The candidate will provide technical expertise and leadership to our team, leading tasks/projects and applying technical knowledge to develop the team s capabilities. Projects will include water/wastewater engineering, investigations, studies, analysis, designs, and construction administration services. The Water Wastewater Project Engineer will evaluate, plan, design, permit and support management of projects for water/wastewater and conveyance (pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities). Other projects may include asset management, distribution system improvement projects, hydraulic modeling, conveyance-related construction projects, pump station rehabilitation, gravity sewer main rehabilitation construction projects, inflow and infiltration assessment and reduction programs, water treatment and reclamation.

This role may support professional engineering services during construction: construction observation, review of shop drawings, responses to RFIs and permit closeouts. This role involves successful execution of water and wastewater projects throughout planning, design, and construction phases, overseeing design calculations, technical report sections, design drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation of project requirements. A key aspect is to support the preparation of reports, presentations, and other audio-visual materials while actively participating in client meetings to foster effective client communication and project alignment.

Ensuring project compliance with Arcadis practices and maintaining quality, health, and safety standards are paramount. Facilitating coordination for timely project completion within budget constraints to meet milestones. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with readiness to engage with team members across locations. Supervising and mentoring junior engineering and design/drafting staff are fundamental aspects. The job may require some travel for site visits, client meetings, safety audits, planning, or overseeing construction activities based on staffing needs.

This role requires adaptability, strong leadership, and commitment to delivering water and wastewater projects in adherence to industry best practices and standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or a related field of study.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant water/wastewater experience.
  • Master of Science/Engineering in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or a related field of study.
  • Experience in design or consulting engineering or Municipal work environment.
  • Project task leadership experience including managing overall project delivery expectations, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional association(s).
