WRA is currently seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer in our Virginia Beach, VA office. This position will work with other Virginia regions as well. Responsibilities will include hydrologic/hydraulic (H/H) studies and drainage, stormwater management (SWM) and erosion/sediment control (ESC) design primarily for transportation projects.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Performing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) watershed analysis and modeling for river mechanics / Floodplain Studies
  • Preparation or modification of drainage design on CADD drawings/ construction plan documents
  • Water quality, quantity, design per VA DEQ regulations
  • Storm sewer system design and profiles
  • Erosion and sediment control design
  • Bridge/culvert hydraulics and design, including scour analysis

Other duties may include performing GIS based project background mapping, utilization of H&H modeling software, technical report preparation, and construction cost estimating. Some field work may be required;, therefore, the candidate will need a vehicle or access to transportation for this position.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering with 5-10 years of relevant experience
  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Engineer required
  • Experience designing drainage, stormwater management systems/BMP’s, erosion and sediment pollution controls; and preparing contract documents preferred.
  • Experience with H/H design software including

    HY-8,NRCS (TR-55/TR-20);
    Hydro

    CAD, Stream Stats, HEC-RAS, Pondpack et. al preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Micro Station CADD software. Understanding of 3D design, including Open Roads Designer, a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
