Geotechnical EngineerInfrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is actively seeking a self‑motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join the Geotechnical Engineering Team in Virginia Beach, VA to support various heavy civil construction and transportation projects throughout the Southeast. We currently perform deep foundation testing and geotechnical engineering services on bridge and pier projects, large heavy civil construction projects, port expansions, and on military bases throughout Hampton Roads and Virginia.
The Geotechnical Engineer will work under the guidance of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and will be trained and primarily responsible for a variety of geotechnical projects to include but not limited to, pile testing, movement monitoring, and instrumentation on infrastructure projects.
- Perform a variety of field foundation and geotechnical testing, analyze collected data, and provide timely reporting of test results under the supervision of the Professional Engineer.
- Primarily work in Virginia, and occasionally with projects across the Southeast including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama.
- Collaborate with the geotechnical group and assist with geotechnical engineering tasks as needed under the supervision of the senior engineer.
- Maintain organized documentation/archives of plans, files, drawings, and construction submittals.
- Foster proactive communication with the geotechnical group, other disciplines, clients, and subconsultants.
- Demonstrate an eagerness to learn, contribute, and grow in the geotechnical engineering field.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a Geotechnical concentration is preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required.
- 1-3 years of geotechnical experience desired.
- A willingness to learn about job costs, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- This position requires lifting, up to 60 pounds on an infrequent basis.
- Hand and eye coordination is necessary for computer data entry, monitoring and instrumentation equipment, and pile testing equipment.
- Ability to travel and visit work sites under adverse environmental conditions, including loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperatures year round, at times for long periods.
- Company vehicle will be provided for engineer to work in the field and obtain supplies for projects.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to various projects located in the Southeast.
- Ability to recognize sound, tone, and pitch, and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Adaptability to interruptions and changes.
- Comfortable sitting for extended periods and working in hot, cold, and noisy work areas, as well as standing and walking when visiting job sites.
- This is a full‑time position (40–hours per week).
- The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Some night and weekend work may be required for sensitive projects.
