We are currently seeking a mid-level Traffic Engineer to join our growing Transportation Practice in our Virginia Beach, VA office. Our traffic team offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects such as adaptive signal systems, innovative intersections and interchanges, TSMO/ATMS, managed lanes, and complete street projects that improve mobility for all transportation modes. Our Traffic Department works on high-profile and complex projects for state and local departments of transportation throughout North America with a concentration on the eastern US. Our traffic work is challenging, interesting, and in many cases, on the leading edge of traffic engineering applications in the industry. Mid-level traffic engineers gain valuable experience performing a wide variety of analysis, modeling, design, and planning for multimodal transportation projects.

Assignments can include: traffic safety/operations studies; development or application of Synchro, Sim Traffic, Trans Modeler, VISSIM, and VISUM models; design of traffic control devices (traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting); work zone traffic control; ITS and CAV projects. Project assignments can range from small-scale intersection improvements to complex interchange and corridor projects, as well as innovative multimodal transportation plans. Position may include working at client site(s) and infrequent travel.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program required; MSCE or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
• Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to obtain license within 6 months.
• Certified PTOE preferred.
• 11-15 years of progressive experience in traffic and/or ITS engineering.
• Experience using traffic guidelines, such as AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual and Highway Safety Manual.
• Experience working with Micro Station and/or AutoCAD.
• Experience with any of the following:
  • HCS, Synchro/Sim Traffic.
  • Trans Modeler, VISSIM, and/or VISUM.
  • Design of traffic control devices (traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting) and work zone traffic control.
  • ITS and CAV projects.
• Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Exceptional communication, technical writing and organizational skills.
• Positive attitude and willingness to work independently and cooperatively with others.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time accordingly.
