Overview
The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Maritime Navigation Systems Engineer to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district.
Responsibilities- Design, simulate and test navigation and communication systems (i.e. steering control, gyro, ECDIS, speed log, echo sounder, magnetic compass) to verify operation and software modifications.
- Develop programming and equipment standards for steering and other navigation systems.
- Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans in support of all aspects of shipboard control systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing shipboard electronic equipment.
- Document system issues and revise design specifications and other detailed documentation for new control systems and modernization efforts.
- Contribute to proposal development by providing generation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS’s), Bill of Materials, and labor estimates for maritime navigation system upgrades.
- Communicate effectively with team members in software engineering, hardware engineering and program management.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent field degree.
- 10-15 years’ experience as a navigation system engineer with hands on troubleshooting, design and maintenance/repair experience.
- Ability to travel up to 30%
- Security Clearance Eligible
- Proficient knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with shipboard navigation systems.
- Experience working on or aboard US Navy shipboard navigation systems.
- Experience testing and repairing radar and communication equipment
- Experience with Sperry Marine navigation systems.
- Proficient knowledge of shipboard navigation systems, Gyro, ECDIS systems and steering control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests
