General information:
This position requires planing and providing learning experiences for students, creating a conducive environment for intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, supervising students, monitoring outcomes, and maintaining records and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Instruct classes regularly at designated times and locations.
- Create a classroom environment that supports student involvement and achievement of learning objectives.
- Provide instructional programs to meet the needs of all students.
- Prepare for classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Establish objectives consistent with the VBCPS curriculum framework and knowledge of student development.
- Utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques to motivate and enable students to learn.
- Take safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
- Assist administration in implementing policies on student life and conduct; establish classroom rules and maintain order fairly.
- Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required.
- Establish respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
- Appraise personal effectiveness and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Participate in school management and attend required meetings and committees.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the VBCPS curriculum and effective instructional practices; understanding of teaching and learning processes; ability to incorporate multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to integrate technology.
- Strong oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. - Must have or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education.
Ability to communicate effectively and interact with others; frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, reaching; occasional stooping and kneeling. Able to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely adherence to work schedules. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.
Special RequirementsPossession of a valid driver’s license. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
