Overview

Incumbent provides appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in one or more CYP programs. This includes guidance, assistance, and mentoring for the CY Program Assistants. The incumbent works under the direction of a supervisor or other qualified higher graded employee, who provides guidance on scope of assignments and assistance on more complex, nonroutine problems.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor – Mentor CY Program Assistant team; work with senior employees to provide instruction and training to lower-level employees; assist with Standardized Module Training; translate professional development training into practice; model appropriate behaviors; provide feedback to credential practicum candidates; assist with recording observations and chart progress; consult with the Training and Curriculum Specialist for guidance on strategies to support professional development.
  • Curriculum – Plan activities based on observed needs; implement activities and special events with the T&C Specialist, supervisor, and CY Program Assistants; incorporate parent instructions; prepare and implement program options for children with special requirements; assist with projects, homework, and life skills; recommend adjustments to activities when needed; set up displays and bulletin boards; arrange snacks or meals where applicable.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Environment – Prepare, arrange, and maintain activity areas; suggest improvements; inventory equipment; secure supplies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Interactions and Relationships – Foster positive interactions among participants and with adults; engage with children and youth using approved guidance techniques.
  • Supervision of Children and Youth – Provide care, supervision, and accountability in compliance with DoD and local policies; maintain control of whereabouts and safety; ensure departures with authorized individuals per parental instructions; oversee arrivals, departures, daily activities, field trips, outings, and events.
  • Parent and Employee Communication – Interact professionally with employees, parents, and installation personnel; participate in conferences; brief other employees and parents.
  • Assessment – Observe development, document progression or concerns, and use information for planning; assist CY Program Assistants with assessment tasks as needed.
  • Compliance – Ensure area meets DoD certification and national accreditation standards; ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations for DoD CYP programs.
  • Additional Responsibilities – Collect, maintain, and report program participation data; perform other related duties as assigned; a complete list of duties will be provided at hire.
Requirements
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, Tier 1 Child Care check, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
  • Must successfully obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.
  • Ability to complete required training certificates and maintain certifications/credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation bodies used in DoD’s Child and Youth Programs.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
  • Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL
    -compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access the installation.
