Peer Recovery Specialist – Bayou, Family Health Center
Position Overview
The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) provides recovery support, coaching, and advocacy to clients seeking or in recovery. The PRS shares lived experience to motivate, assess, and connect clients to resources, ensuring they remain engaged in or achieve recovery.
- Provide recovery support and coaching to individuals on their journey.
- Deliver services specified in clients’ treatment plans, including life skills training and community engagement.
- Advocate for positive client outcomes and collaborate with care teams.
- Develop and maintain positive, caring relationships with clients.
- Recognize and share lived experience of recovery.
- Facilitate support groups linked to recovery goals.
- Arrange transportation to support treatment compliance.
- Navigate community resources and assist clients in accessing them.
- Promote leadership and self‑growth for clients.
- Maintain required training, certifications, and Peer certification.
- Document accurately in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Meet productivity standards set for the role.
- Follow ethical guidelines from the Division of Mental Health and Addictions and ICAADA Certified Peer Recovery Coach Code of Ethics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Personal, lived experience in recovery from addiction or co‑occurring substance and mental disorders with at least 1 year of verified sobriety (3 years preferred).
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a primary care, mental health, or integrated health setting preferred.
- Computer skills for Electronic Medical Record use preferred.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention or trauma‑informed care preferred.
- Frequent standing, walking, routine lifting up to 25 lbs, and repetitive typing.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and hazardous materials; must follow infection control protocols.
- Potential irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call responsibilities.
- Clinical environment with emotionally challenging cases.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) preferred or willing to obtain certification within 6 months.
- Must be 23 years or older with a valid driver’s license.
- Establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships.
- Effective time management and organization.
- Commitment to professional growth and supervision.
- Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Experience with recovery modalities preferred.
- Strong problem‑solving and multitasking.
- Active listening and effective communication.
- Team‑oriented and independent work capability.
