The Payroll Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all employees. This position is responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process, including data entry, timekeeping verification, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Clerk serves as a key liaison between employees, HR, and finance, providing exceptional customer service and resolving payroll-related inquiries. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working under strict deadlines.
Additionally, the Payroll Clerk supports audits, reporting, and continuous improvement of payroll processes to enhance efficiency and compliance.
The essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Accurately process a bi-weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance with company policies, state, and federal regulations.
- Input and update employee information, including new hires, terminations, and changes to payroll and benefits data.
- Review and verify timekeeping records, ensuring accurate calculations of hours worked, overtime, and paid time off.
- Calculate, apply, and audit deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and finance departments.
- Ensure all payroll processes are compliant with federal, state, and local laws, particularly Indiana state regulations.
- Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of employee information.
- Assist in preparing for payroll audits and providing necessary documentation to auditors.
- Work closely with interorganizational departments to ensure alignment and efficiencies on employee data, benefits, and accounting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and implement best practices for efficiency.
- Maintain and troubleshoot payroll software systems; collaborate with external vendors for updates and issue resolution.

Experience:
- Experience in data entry and record keeping
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook
- Knowledgeable of Indiana wage and hour laws is highly preferred

Associate’s degree or a minimum of 2 years of payroll related experience
