Title: TEACHER AIDE (MUSIC)
Reports To: Department Chair
Duration: 10 Months
PurposeThe job of Teacher Aide (Music) is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for providing accompaniment for rehearsals and performances; assisting with classroom clerical tasks; and serving as an instructional resource for students and teachers in the area of fine arts.
Essential Functions- Administers subject specific assessment and test for the purpose of assessing the level of students competencies.
- Analyzes assigned music prior to rehearsal and performances (e.g. correct tempos, challenging transitions, dynamics, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of rehearsal time and performance schedules.
- Assists the teacher in supervising student activities for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of class time and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Assists the teacher in planning concerts and recitals for the purpose of displaying student performances.
- Exhibits professional and stage etiquette for the purpose of serving as a model of professionalism at musical productions.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provide piano accompaniment for rehearsals, concerts, recitals, festivals, musicals, contests, and other school events.
- Demonstrate excellent sight-reading skills and stylistic versatility (classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary).
- Rehearse with large and small ensembles (choral, band, orchestra, guitar) and accompany soloists as assigned.
- Supports and collaborates effectively with the classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
- Assists teachers with managing classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
- Assists the teacher for the purpose of training students in the art of accompaniment.
- Assists teachers with managing musical instruments, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of required materials.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: piano playing; sight reading music; and working with large groups, instrumental and vocal solos and choral singers.
Knowledge is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: strong piano skills; established audition standards; voice ranges; and key transpositions.
Ability is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others. Problem solving is required to identify issues. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: consistently attending work; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; hearing mistakes in music performances; and working as part of a team.
Educationand Licenses
Education High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses Educator License with Stipulations – Paraprofessional endorsement or higher
