Reporting to the CEO, the Principal of the Single‑Family Studio is responsible for operations, staff performance, financial profitability, staff development and growth of the group, consistent with LDI’s policies and approved business plan. Oversee the Group’s Associate Principals, Designers and Project Managers and assure technical and financial performance of all projects to meet Quality & Cost Assurance standards. Oversee the Group’s organizational staff development and administer LDI’s policies and programs.
Position Overview- Demonstrate leadership by facing challenges, solving problems, and motivating teams.
- Develop and implement the Group’s business plan to strengthen market position.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a Client Sponsor.
- Increase LDI’s competitive position through strategic initiatives.
- Review and approve all Group bids, proposals and contracts for accuracy and profitability.
- Negotiate bid pricing, work scope and terms in alignment with company policies.
- Approve Group billings, manage variances and recommend write‑offs or credits.
- Negotiate Group contracts and budgets to ensure financial sustainability.
- Recruit, train and supervise Group personnel; develop successors for key roles.
- Administer career development plans, quarterly Intern Development Program and annual evaluations.
- Manage personnel decisions including hiring, termination, promotions and salary reviews.
- Mentor Group management in technical, administrative, financial and marketing areas.
- Conduct programming and feasibility studies.
- Assist in design, production and construction administration to ensure accuracy and coordination.
- Produce high‑quality designs that meet client expectations without compromising profitability.
- Respond to construction administration queries requiring resolution by architects, engineers or contractors.
- Stamp and seal drawings as a licensed architect; obtain additional licenses as needed.
- Write contracts and proposal agreements with Project Managers to define fees, schedules and terms.
- Develop work scopes, prepare budgets and ensure quality assurance for all assigned projects.
- Ensure compliance with state/local codes and accessibility requirements.
- Market LDI’s services in coordination with other Senior Principals and Principals.
- Develop new business opportunities and maintain client relationships in line with the business plan.
- Review and support the development of Project Management Plans.
- Monitor and achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Group and self.
- Maintain target labor utilization and coordinate with other leadership roles.

This position will require up to 50% local travel.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position will be responsible for the supervision of Associate Principals, Designers and Project Managers.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), preferably in Architecture or a related field.
- Architectural License: Required license in all states where projects are located.
- Experience: 15+ years in Single‑Family/Townhome projects. Proven business development experience is a must
. - Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in REVIT, MS Office required;
Photoshop and/or InDesign a plus. - Building Type: Single Family Residential.
