Remote Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified Dev Ops Engineer to support the Buckeye contract at USDA's FPAC environment. The Dev Ops Engineer supports a cloud-based migration and development environment for the USDA FPAC. The Dev Ops Engineer focuses upon automated continuous deployment of application code and the operational and security monitoring and care of the infrastructure and software platforms. The Dev Ops Engineer, with a strong foundation in AWS cloud based CI/CD tools, will work as part of a team to support the FPAC community's research efforts.
The Dev Ops Engineer must be self-driven and possess strong analytical skills to solve challenging technical problems, often through collaboration with other technical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as a technical authority for Dev Ops and Dev Sec Ops solutions across the FPAC environment
* Design and architect secure, scalable CI/CD and infrastructure platforms where standards may not yet exist
* Capable of writing, debugging, and deploying Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools like Puppet or Terraform.
* Design and build CI/CD pipeline configurations to orchestrate provisioning and deployment of both large- and small-scale systems
* Own architectural decisions, technical documentation, and implementation guidance
* Review and approve technical work products to ensure quality, security, and compliance
* Design and implement fully automated enterprise pipelines using a suite of Dev Ops tools:
Terraform, Bit Bucket, Puppet, Docker, Github.
* Lead design and implementation of enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines with integrated security controls
* Architect and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform and Puppet
* Design and operate containerized platforms using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS)
* Integrate and support mission-critical and highly specialized systems in cloud environments
* Embed security automation (scanning, policy enforcement, secrets management) directly into pipelines
* Collaborate with team to develop, stand-up, and support of cloud platform using a variety of programming languages and cloud-native technologies.
* Apply FISMA and FedRAMP requirements to cloud architectures, pipelines, and operational processes
* Lead vulnerability mitigation, compliance alignment, and secure automation strategies
* Serve as escalation point for production incidents, security events, and high-risk technical issues
* Partner with security and governance teams to ensure continuous compliance and audit readiness
* Proficiency with AWS services such as Amazon S3, Amazon EKS, Dynamo
DB, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Amazon EC2, Elastic Search, Amazon X-Ray, WAF, Amazon Aurora, AWS Work Spaces, etc.
* Strong familiarity with modern Dev Ops principles, practices, methods, and tools.
* Design containerization (Docker, etc.) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, etc.) framework solutions in deployment and operations.
* Able to multi-task multiple projects and provide updates to management.
* Demonstrate strong verbal and written interpersonal communications skills and ability to deal effectively with customers, peers and management.

* Demonstrated experience supporting FISMA-regulated or FedRAMP-authorized environments

* 6+ years of experience developing & engineering enterprise cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) using leading cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure. Must include networking, computer, storage, database, identify management/access control, monitoring, etc.
* Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience designing Dev Sec Ops architecture for federal or regulated environments
* Strong background in incident response, root cause analysis, and risk mitigation
* Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
* Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, Go, or YAML
* Preferred Certifications (Senior-Level Aligned)
* AWS Certified Dev Ops Engineer - Professional or AWS Solutions Architect - Professional
* Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
* CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent senior cybersecurity certification
* ITIL Foundation (v3 or v4)
* Architectural ownership vs task execution
* Security and compliance accountability (FISMA/FedRAMP)
Experience with AWS cloud technologies and cloud infrastructure, including networking, VPCs, S3, RDS, ELB, Route
53, HPC, SQS, Auto Scaling, Direct Connect, VGWs, and DNS.
