Position Overview
We are seeking a Sr. Software Packaging Engineer to support an enterprise-wide End-of-Life (EOL) Software Management Initiative
. This initiative will focus on identifying, assessing, and retiring legacy, redundant, and unsupported applications to reduce risk, cost, and complexity across the organization.
The engineer will play a lead role in analyzing installed software, assessing usage/support status, collaborating with stakeholders, and executing decommissioning strategies while ensuring compliance with organizational and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support full lifecycle EOL software project activities.
- Conduct environment-wide software discovery and usage analysis.
- Identify unsupported, vulnerable, or redundant software titles.
- Coordinate with project managers, security, compliance, and engineering teams.
- Manage risks, issues, and change requests.
- Document findings, decisions, and remediation plans.
- Provide technical leadership on software lifecycle management.
- Present findings and recommendations to both technical and business audiences.
Standard Packaging Responsibilities
- Pre-packaging research and validation.
- Software packaging, repackaging, and quality control validation.
- MECM integration and application creation.
- Validation of install/uninstall via MECM.
- Active Directory group setup (Test/Prod OU).
- Collaborate with customers on UAT.
- Pilot deployment and production rollout through MECM (with change tickets).
- Retire/delete old versions in AD, MECM, and MDT.
- Notify appropriate groups and ensure cleanup of retired/new software.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong understanding of software lifecycle and EOL processes
. - Expertise with Power Shell, SQL, WQL, Power BI
, and software inventory tools. - Experience with Change Management Processes (initiating, documenting, submitting tickets).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).
- Proficiency in packaging, repackaging, and deployment technologies
. - Familiarity with Windows 10/11, Mac, or VDI enterprise environments
. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Desired (Nice-to-Have):
- Install Shield or Liquid ware Flex App experience.
- 3+ years dedicated Software Packaging Engineering experience.
