We are seeking an experienced accountant to join our Finance Team. The Senior Accountant will serve as our Accounts Payable manager and a key contributor to core accounting operations. This role reports to the Director of Finance and collaborates closely with the Finance team. Success in this position requires strong GAAP knowledge, high organization, adaptability in a changing environment, and the ability to work both independently and as a team player.
DutiesAnd Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Accounts Payable
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including vendor setup and maintenance, invoice review, proper expense classification, approval workflows, and timely processing of payments. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, internal controls, and applicable tax regulations, including annual 1099 reporting.
- Oversee all cash disbursements, including checks, ACH transactions, and wire transfers, ensuring transactions are accurate, properly authorized, and recorded in accordance with GAAP and internal control standards.
- Serve as the primary resource for AP‑related matters across the organization, providing guidance and training to non‑finance staff on expense coding, documentation requirements, and compliance with financial policies.
- Support and execute AP system transitions and process improvements, including migration from Concur to RAMP/BILL, with a focus on strengthening controls, improving efficiency, and enhancing data accuracy.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules in accordance with GAAP and organizational capitalization policies.
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries, ensuring accurate general ledger classification, adequate supporting documentation, and proper period recognition.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner to support accurate and complete financial statements.
- Assist with monthly and year‑end close, ensuring deadlines are met and accounts are reconciled, documented, and audit‑ready.
- Prepare and provide audit support, including schedules, reconciliations, and timely delivery of PBC documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support the maintenance of strong internal controls and compliance with financial policies, GAAP, and nonprofit regulatory requirements, partnering with Finance leadership to address control gaps as identified.
- Support the ERP migration from Great Plains to Sage Intacct, including data validation, workflow configuration, and reporting enhancements to ensure accuracy, consistency, and scalability.
- Continuously evaluate accounting and AP processes and recommend improvements that strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and support the organization’s growth and stewardship responsibilities.
- Five or more years of experience in accounting or related field
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Prior church experience desired
