Role Description

As a (Senior) Power Electronics Control Engineer, you will lead the development of advanced control algorithms for power converter systems used inside Impedyme’s high-performance power amplifier and real-time emulation platforms.

You will work at the intersection of model-based control design, real-time hardware validation, and system-level power electronics development, collaborating closely with hardware, firmware, and deployment teams. In addition to simulation and algorithm development, you will perform hands‑on lab measurements for system identification, model validation, and closed‑loop performance verification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and validate advanced control algorithms for AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC power conversion systems
  • Develop firmware-level control specifications for embedded implementation
  • Model and simulate power converter dynamics using MATLAB/Simulink and circuit simulation tools
  • Perform physics-based system identification and model validation
  • Design and validate closed‑loop control strategies
  • Execute hardware testing, debugging, and performance validation in laboratory environments
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define system architecture and requirements
  • Support manufacturing through development of automated test platforms and validation procedures
  • Support product deployment by analyzing field performance data and improving controller robustness
  • Contribute to next‑generation control architecture development for high‑performance power platforms
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field
  • 5+ years experience in power electronics control engineering (industry experience strongly preferred) or 2 years with MSc. degree or fresh PhD graduates
  • PID and advanced control methods
  • Model-Based Control and Model-Based Design
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced, highly technical product development environments
Required Technical Skills Hands‑on experience with lab instrumentation:
  • Power analyzers
  • Signal generators
  • Spectrum analyzers
  • Regulated power supplies
  • Multimeters
Practical knowledge of power converter hardware:
  • Control loop implementation
  • Prototype bring‑up and debugging
  • PCBA-level troubleshooting and rework
  • Strong organizational and documentation discipline
Strong working knowledge of:
  • MATLAB and Simulink
  • HDL Coder
  • Workflow Advisor
  • Model-based design and auto-code generation workflows for embedded and FPGA targets
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or real-time simulation platforms
  • Electric machine modeling and control knowledge
  • Battery energy storage systems or electrified powertrain experience
