PositionDescription
The Area Superintendent (AS) is responsible for supervision of a specific area of the project. The AS establishes and achieves project goals related to schedule, budget, safety, quality, and personnel development. The AS typically assigns field engineers to assist with overseeing safety compliance, craft supervision and production, trade partner coordination, scheduling, material handling, daily reports, quality control, and craft training. This is a safety‑sensitive position.
PositionQualifications
- A 4‑year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or construction management.
- Minimum of 5–6 years' experience on large commercial construction projects.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer software – Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel‑based templates, Prolog, Primavera, and the Auto Desk Suite.
- Experienced in construction layout, blueprint reading, and shop drawing reading.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Coordinate, supervise and mentor the company workforce in their area.
- Coordinate field construction work through organization and proper planning, and develop collaborative relationships with trade partners. Participate in weekly schedule and management meetings with trade partners.
- Promote and enforce the site‑specific safety plan and sound safety principles within their area of work. Create AHAs/STAs with foremen for all self‑performed work. Review AHAs for trade partners.
- Participate in project scheduling and maintain the portion of the four‑week schedule for their area to ensure the project is completed on time.
- Keep accurate cost and production records.
- Participate in the development of material handling and site utilization plans for their specific area. Coordinate with project engineers and office engineers on material needs, RFIs, etc. Ensure that material received is properly inspected for quantity and quality, and that receiving tickets are properly signed, coded, and given to the jobsite administrator.
- Take responsibility for all quality control on the project and establish high‑level standards for both the company and trade partners.
- Coordinate the punch‑list process to ensure owner acceptance at project turnover.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the owner, architect, engineer and trade partners to ensure the highest level of quality and customer service is delivered.
- Participate in project coordination meetings to maintain pre‑planning engagement and scheduling in the coordination activities. Assist the BIM and VDC engineers in driving issue resolution to keep the submittal process on schedule.
- Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
