Job Summary

Pet Smart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents and their pets in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for in-store pickup and ensure a smooth experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Replenish and recover products to meet standards.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events such as adoption weekends and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
• Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified.
• Assist in various store areas as needed.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and see with depth perception.
• Lift up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Work may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise levels, with occasional high noise exposure. Handling live animals is common.
