OverviewThe Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive patient care by conducting histories and physical examinations, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, prescribing medications, performing minor procedures, and responding to medical emergencies in accordance with licensure and institutional policies. Maintains accurate clinical documentation, ensures patient confidentiality and infection control compliance, and collaborates with physicians and healthcare staff to deliver high-quality medical care.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff.
- Perform Advanced Practice Practitioner duties within the scope of current licensure.
- Administer medications as prescribed (orally, intravenously, intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly).
- Assist with the distribution of medications at the pill line.
- Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy.
- Perform histories and physicals; take medical histories, examine patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays.
- Maintain accurate logs and ensure patient privacy, confidentiality, and infection control compliance.
- Record progress notes, counsel, order or carry out therapy, and coordinate with physicians and other healthcare staff; provide emergency medical services as needed.
- Attend to medical emergencies and manage injuries (suturing, splinting, immobilization) within scope.
- Operate an EKG and perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits.
- Work collaboratively with staff physicians and consultants to plan and revise program plans; determine conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of health care services.
- Ensure compliance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policies where applicable.
- Disseminate findings between normal and abnormal to recognize early stages of serious conditions.
- Must be certified to practice medicine in the state of California.
- One to three years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (BLS/ACLS) certifications.

The position is full-time (40 hours per week) with work Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of FCC Victorville and the correctional environment.
