Yazoo River Towing, Inc. is a privately owned maritime transportation company operating towboats and barges along the Mississippi River system. The business is asset-intensive, operations-driven, and historically owner-managed, with a long operating history and a growing need for more formal financial controls and reporting.

This is a hands-on Controller role responsible for owning the accounting function end-to-end, while helping modernize processes that have historically relied on legacy workflows.

This role is not purely managerial and is not a bookkeeping position. The right candidate will be comfortable both setting direction and rolling up their sleeves where needed — but will also recognize where additional support or process change is required.

• Own the company’s general ledger, monthly close, and financial reporting
• Oversee billing for marine operations, including charter billing, rate changes, downtime credits, and related adjustments
• Manage cash visibility, payables workflow, and payment prioritization
• Coordinate with operations and ownership to ensure accurate and timely financial information
• Oversee payroll and benefits administration (with existing support)
• Track claims, insurance recoveries, and related accounting entries
• Work with outside CPA firms on tax filings, audits, and special projects
• Identify and reduce errors, inefficiencies, and manual workarounds over time

This is an immediate need. Candidates must currently be located within 70 miles of Vicksburg, MS.

• 7+ years of accounting experience, with time spent as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant in an operating company
• Experience in transportation, maritime, logistics, construction, manufacturing, or other asset-intensive industries strongly preferred
• Comfortable working in environments that are transitioning from informal to more structured processes
• Strong judgment, follow-through, and ability to prioritize under pressure
• CPA preferred but not required
• Experience with Sage or similar accounting systems a plus
