The Chief Financial Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, working in close partnership with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee. This role provides strategic and operational oversight of the finance function and supervises the finance team while collaborating cross-functionally across programs, operations, philanthropy, and external partners. As the organization continues to grow in scale and complexity, the CFO will play a central role in strengthening financial systems, enhancing reporting and forecasting capabilities, and ensuring the infrastructure supports long‑term sustainability and impact.

The CFO will have the opportunity to shape financial strategy at a pivotal moment in the organization’s evolution, supporting diverse revenue streams including donations, grants, and public funding while maintaining strong compliance and governance practices. This position requires a leader who is comfortable guiding change, modernizing systems, and building scalable processes that advance operational excellence. Job Duties
  • Serve as senior financial executive and strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Lead all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Oversee development and management of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Develop short‑ and long‑term financial forecasts aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP‑compliant financial reporting.
  • Lead the annual audit process and manage relationships with external auditors.
  • Serve as Chief Compliance Officer, overseeing regulatory compliance, internal controls, and enterprise risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including government grants, ERISA, and 501(c)(3) requirements.
  • Provide financial reporting and strategic guidance to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
  • Oversee investment portfolio and reserve management to ensure long‑term sustainability.
  • Lead financial systems modernization and strengthen infrastructure, processes, and standard operating procedures.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high‑performing finance team.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to support program growth, philanthropy, and operational effectiveness.
  • Oversee financial management of diverse revenue streams, including donations, grants, and Medicaid reimbursements.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources in alignment with mission and values.
Skills Required
  • Strong strategic financial leadership and business acumen.
  • Expertise in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial analysis.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards.
  • Experience leading audits and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, including government grants, ERISA, and 501(c)(3) requirements.
  • Experience with investment oversight and reserve management.
  • Strong enterprise risk management and internal controls expertise.
  • Demonstrated success implementing or modernizing financial systems.

Work Schedule

This is a full‑time, onsite position based in Verona, VA, with occasional travel to regional distribution centers and community partners. Some evening or additional hours may be required to support Board meetings and organizational priorities.
