Overview

Playground Program Counselor

The Playground Program is a program held at five Verona Parks:
Harriet, Tollefson, Cathedral, Veterans and Epic. Children ages 5-7 attend the morning session from 9 am-12 pm, and children ages 8-12 attend the afternoon session from 1 pm-4 pm. A variety of activities from arts and crafts, trips to the beach, and all kinds of outdoor games will be planned throughout the summer.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and ensures the safety of kids ages 5 – 12.
  • Organize and supervise a program of recreational activities each week.
  • Organizes and participates in various: arts and crafts activities, and games.
  • Prepares and examines the playground so it is ready, safe, and well represented for the daily activities.
  • Encourages the children and adults at the playground to respect all playground property, equipment, buildings, trees, etc. This includes:
    • Reporting vandalism and property damage IMMEDIATELY to your supervisor.
    • Leaving bicycle racks where they are, parking bikes in racks only, and discouraging the riding of bikes on the playgrounds.
    • Picking up dangerous debris on the playground; not allowing children to pick up dangerous debris for liability reasons.
  • Encourages and sets a good example in behavior and dress. Discourages and reports (in weekly incident report) all disruptive behavior such as: gambling, profane language, rowdyism, etc.
  • Advertises and sells their playground and the park program. They get to know the kids, the families, and the neighborhood.
  • Encourages participation in any and all activities.
  • Applies first aid when needed. Fills out accident reports, and if necessary reports to Police and their supervisor.
  • Cooperates and encourages positive interaction between parks and leaders.
  • Makes the playgrounds safe by following the rules
  • Enjoys working with people and kids!
Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Ability to work outside for extended period of time
