Working under the general direction of the immediate supervisor, this position is responsible for supporting Traffic Technicians and Manager relating to traffic counts, sign fabrication and signs and pavement marking inventory. The position is entry-level, and training will be provided.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Records complaints or requests from the public regarding traffic problems received by phone, e-mail or in person
  • Assists technicians in placing traffic counting devices and temporary traffic control devices
  • Conducts traffic counts of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists (manually or via video)
  • Conducts field investigations regarding traffic related items such as sign and pavement marking inventory and traffic control device locations
  • Take field measurements to assist Traffic Technicians and field crews in laying out new striping, markings and traffic signs
  • Creates pavement marking plans and work orders using computer programs
  • Fabricates signs using computer programs and equipment
  • Prepares traffic count data and collision reports using computer programs
  • Assists Manager and Technicians in preparing documents in Word & Excel
  • Scans reports, documents and plans
  • Completes duties as assigned by Manager
  • Required to participate in after hours on call rotation
Typical Requirements

Education And Experience

  • High school diploma / GED. Computer experience with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel are required. Experience with sign fabrication, traffic count data collection and/or working in traffic is a plus.
Licenses, Certifications Or Registrations
  • Must possess a valid Florida class E driver’s license.
  • Must possess or obtain within six months of hire an FDOT approved temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) Intermediate certification.
Knowledge, Abilities And Skills
  • Knowledge of federal standards for highway signs and basic sign construction.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge and practice of organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to layout, design, and fabricate signs using computer equipment.
  • Ability to inventory materials.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, responsibly and safely in/near roadways.
  • Ability to read maps and navigate to sites.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. of equipment, tools and machinery as necessary.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Candidate must have the availability and willingness to work extra hours in morning, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, traffic, and noise.
Supplemental Information

Environmental Conditions – Work is performed inside an office environment. Periodic site visits are required which will involve working outdoors with exposure to heat, dust and inclement weather conditions.
