LocationVero Beach Facility, Indian River Hospital, Florida-Indian River Hospital
Shift / ScheduleEvenings, 3:00 pm–11:30 pm. Rotating weekend call.
Job SummaryProvides safe and efficient practices for decontamination, instrument inspection, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment. Responsible for case cart management and ensuring compliance with departmental standards.
Responsibilities- Perform case pull functions.
- Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation, and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and PPE standards during the decontamination process.
- Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
- Assemble, wrap and label instruments according to provided lists following documented procedures.
- Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high‑level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
- Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
- Perform record‑keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing, sterilization and quality assurance documentation.
- Participate in in‑service education.
- Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER or CER) within 18 months after hire unless an extension is granted at the purview of leadership.
- Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking system to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds continually, push, pull, and navigate carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Comfortable standing, sitting, stooping, and reaching for long periods.
- Basic computer skills.
- One year of healthcare experience or similar background in mechanical/manufacturing assembly.
- Military experience such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar.
Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, stooping, and reaching for long periods; lift up to 25 pounds continually; push, pull, and navigate carts weighing up to 200 pounds; manual dexterity sufficient for basic functions; exposure to bacterial and viral contamination and possible exposure to sterilization gases.
Personal Protective EquipmentFollows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
