Responsibilities- Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Administrator/Manager, observe, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care outcomes.
- Coordinate scheduling and primary proactive management for service areas during assigned shifts.
- Supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff, collaborating with Nurse Coordinator, other Nurse Managers, and MH Supervisor/Specialist to maintain 24‑hour continuity of care.
- Provide direct nursing care to individual patients as needed.
- Document all aspects of patient care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with blood exposure protocols and other infection control measures.
- Assist in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, including alternate shift patterns or locations as required.
- Act as Nurse Coordinator in the absence of the designated staff member.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as endurance of additional pay for evenings, nights, weekends, or maximum security locations.
- Attend work regularly, adhering to the agency’s shift schedule, extended shifts, and overtime policy.
- Assess patients’ health/mental status upon admission, transfer, and ongoing care, documenting in patient records.
- Perform CPR/Heimlich correctly per American Heart Association standards.
- Coordinate staffing and patient care activities, address performance problems, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Facilitate admissions or transfers to ensure mission alignment.
- Carry out medical staff orders and implement nursing interventions per nursing care standards.
- Provide individual and group teaching about medications, illness, and treatment.
- Implement special precautions, restraints, and seclusion procedures to maintain safety and uphold patient rights.
- Participate in client abuse and neglect processes, performance improvement teams, and nursing service utilization.
- Attend mandatory trainings and in‑service education relevant to the patient population.
- Knowledge of American Nurses Association Nursing Standards.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act.
- Skills in supervisory and management techniques.
- Ability to perform CPR, aggression management, restraint techniques, and emergency care.
- Skills for positive interaction with patients, staff, families, and the public.
- Ability to handle crisis situations calmly.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact).
Initial Screening Criteria- Graduation from a Nursing Program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Minimum six (6) months of RN experience in a recognized health agency, hospital, or healthcare facility.
- One (1) year of RN experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
