This apprenticeship guides you to becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and provides the tools and support to advance your career.
$17.00/hr - $20.50/hr
Responsibilities- In accordance with state and federal regulations, assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and performs other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers.
- Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving issues and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
- Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits such as offering help proactively and identifying needs.
- Develops strong relationships with high‑value customers.
- Assists in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, reviewing and complying with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Performs duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine, checking for interactions, and maintaining workflow.
- Reports prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Strictly adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable dispensing activities.
- Registers all related sales on the assigned cash register, handles cash, and assists customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
- Handles telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention, including those to physicians.
- Processes and resubmits manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently, and performs other clerical duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
- Assists with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and files claims for overages, shortages, or damaged goods.
- May assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
- Assists the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in building relationships with the local medical community through detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums.
- Maintains an orderly, clean Pharmacy Department with adequate supplies and overall appearance.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures and maintains respectful coworker relationships.
- Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- Ears and maintains PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification/registration; otherwise earns certification as a condition for promotion to senior technician.
- Attends manager‑requested training and acquires continuing education credits, maintaining knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy developments.
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
- Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing).
- Prefer strong computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
