# Camp Counselor Camp Counselor Sullivan Community Center - Vernon Hills, IL 60061## Description The Camp Counselor is responsible for planning age appropriate activities, supervising campers and maintaining a safe environment at all times.#####
** ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
*** Implement and supervise a well-organized, quality day camp program offering activities in the areas of arts and crafts, sports, games, outdoor recreation, field trips, special events, and leisure swim.
* Organize, lead, and interact with campers and staff and ensure camp environment promotes inclusivity, team focus and a fun recreational experience.
* Provide ongoing motivation and leadership to campers by displaying positivity, flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm.
* Attend and actively participate in camp staff orientation, trainings and meetings.
* Adhere to assigned work schedules and accept ongoing performance feedback.
* Establish camp rules and routines.  Ensure that campers know and follow safety and program procedures.  Maintain a safe environment at all times.
* Maintain communication lines with Camp Director.  Provide updates for camp communication systems and notify Camp Director when a child experiences difficulty or an injury.
* Maintain accurate daily attendance records.  Conduct face-to-face counts when arriving and departing a location (e.g., classroom, athletic field, facility, bus, etc.). Conduct frequent face-to-face counts throughout scheduled activities to ensure all campers are accounted for.
* Review camper files including, but not limited to, Data Forms, Medication Dispensing Forms, etc. to become familiar with assigned campers and their needs.
* Maintain travel first aid kit inventory and ensure supplies are within their expiration dates.  Notify the Camp Director when supplies need to be replenished.  Have travel first aid kits accessible at all times.
* Maintain camp supplies, equipment, and storage areas.  Gather all necessary supplies and equipment to conduct camp activities in a timely manner. Ensure that all campers have lunches and swim attire (if applicable) upon arrival.
* Ensure the site remains presentable and safe, including facility rooms, restrooms, outdoor recreation areas, and storage areas.  Scan restrooms after campers exit to make sure the facility is left in clean condition.
* While supervising swim time, it is expected that staff will be in the water with their assigned campers unless otherwise directed by the Camp Director.
* Perform other duties as assigned.#####
** SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT
*** Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental specific safety rules.
* Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 30 pounds or less.
* Reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly.
* Attends required safety program and in service education meetings.
* Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.#####
** PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
*** Must work closely with co-workers and the general public.
* Experiences ongoing concerns for all safety and liability issues.
* Must have ability to deal with other people under stressful situations.
* May have to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR are required.#####
** PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
*** Lifting is occasional, usually 30 pounds or less.
* May need to respond to situations quickly and accurately.#####
** ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
*** Will be required to work during various weather conditions, including hot temperatures.#####
** COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
*** Must be knowledgeable about subject matter and constantly strive for improvement.
* Must use good judgment at all times and be aware of immediate surroundings.
* Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.

Must have the ability to supervise a group of campers. A CPR certification is required prior to the first day of camp.  Commit to working five days a week for the eight-week camp period.  Must be caring and understanding, enthusiastic and encourage fun with kids, but also be responsible and reliable, show initiative and be a good team player.
