Position Summary and Requirements:
Undergrounding miners at AGC make up our largest department and provide our most valuable resource, Gilsonite Ore. Miners use manual labor techniques to extract Gilsonite ore from underground veins through the use of a 14-pound pneumatic chipping hammer to break/chip the ore. Additionally, miners are responsible for the safe and proper construction of underground support walls and floors. Working 10-hour shifts, generally Monday - Thursday, a miner spends nearly all of their working hours underground, often works on slanting, un-even flooring and in tight spaces that may be as narrow as 14 inches wide.
Additionally, AGC miners must have the ability to:
- Carry heavy timbers from mine site to underground mining location;
- Endure extreme repetitive motion required using the pneumatic chipping hammer on mine walls;
- Be a team player and able to work with a diverse group of people;
- Be able to read and understand training material and follow safety regulations and other company policies and procedures.
