Overview
The Building Healthy Families Physical Activity Coordinator leads and coordinates the physical activity component of the Building Healthy Families program. This position is responsible for planning, delivering, and supervising age-appropriate physical activity sessions for children and families, supporting healthy movement, fitness, and behavior change. The Physical Activity Coordinator plays a central role in ensuring that physical activity programming is safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with evidence-based practices and program goals.
Responsibilities- Plan and lead structured physical activity sessions for youth and families as part of the Building Healthy Families curriculum.
- Teach developmentally appropriate physical activities that promote movement skills, fitness, enjoyment of physical activity, and healthy behavior change.
- Adapt activities to meet the needs of children and families with varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment by following established safety protocols and monitoring participant well-being during activities.
- Collaborate with nutrition educators and program staff to integrate physical activity with broader wellness and behavior change goals.
- Track participation and assist with evaluation of physical activity components, including attendance and basic outcome measures.
- Assist with equipment management, set-up, and maintenance.
- Support outreach and recruitment efforts related to physical activity programming.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience leading physical activity programs with children, youth, or families.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate physical activity, fitness principles, and youth development.
- Strong instructional, communication, and group facilitation skills.
- Ability to model positive movement behaviors and motivate participants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in youth fitness, group fitness instruction, health coaching, or physical activity leadership.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience with family-based or community wellness programming.
- Familiarity with behavior change strategies and health promotion frameworks.
- Experience working in school, community, or Extension-based programs.

Advertised Salary $1,000.00, Set Rate for a 12 month committee ADA
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. This position requires moderate physical effort. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing.
