About the Role

The Vermont Institute of Natural Science ( seeking a strong candidate for the position of Seasonal Avian Rehabilitator
. This role involves working closely with the permanent animal care staff to provide comprehensive care for both permanent resident animals and wildlife patients at the Center for Wild Bird Rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform physical examinations on birds and diagnose injuries.
  • Administer medications and fluids, and perform wound care management including fracture immobilization and dosing.
  • Feed, clean, and maintain animal enclosures.
  • Observe and report unusual behavior changes and keep detailed records for internal and state purposes.
  • Assist with rehabilitation procedures and train interns and volunteers.
  • Participate in education and public relations efforts to communicate wildlife care and conservation principles to the public.
Prerequisites
  • At least one season of avian wildlife rehabilitation experience.
  • Experience in caring for and hand-feeding baby songbirds and other birds.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree related to wildlife or a certification as a veterinary technician.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to interact effectively with the public.
  • Flexibility in working various shifts including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and some holidays.
Compensation

The position offers an hourly wage of $17.50, paid bi-weekly.
