Position: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Town of Vermont

VEIC is seeking a strategic and mission‑driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help guide the organization through its next chapter of impact and growth. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CFO will play a pivotal role in shaping VEIC’s financial strategy, strengthening operational excellence, and ensuring the long‑term financial sustainability of an organization dedicated to advancing innovative energy solutions that benefit people, communities, and the planet.

The CFO will serve as a trusted partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leaders, helping ensure VEIC’s financial systems, insights, and strategies support bold ideas and responsible growth.

While this role offers hybrid flexibility, Vermont is the preferred location, as the majority of VEIC’s finance team is based here. We would welcome a leader who values in‑person collaboration and can connect with and support the team on the ground as needed.

The salary range for this position is $280,000 - $320,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Essential Functions:

Financial Strategy & Organizational Leadership:
  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Team (ELT) to develop and execute financial strategies that support VEIC’s mission, operational priorities, and long‑term sustainability, to include:
    • Long‑term balance sheet planning
    • Investment oversight
    • Foundation funding and revenue strategy
  • Serve as the organization’s senior financial leader, overseeing all aspects of finance, accounting, treasury, financial planning and analysis, and contract management.
  • Advise leadership and the Board of Directors on financial performance, risk, and the financial implications of strategic initiatives and new business models.
  • Provide financial modeling, scenario analysis, and decision support for both short‑term operational decisions and long‑term strategy.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Board Treasurer and Finance and Audit Committee, and prepare and present financial reports and financial insights to the Board of Directors and Committee.
  • Represent VEIC to financial partners, financial institutions, clients, and other external parties.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor finance leadership and staff, building financial capability and strength.
  • Promote cross‑functional collaboration to strengthen financial literacy and accountability across VEIC.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and strong financial stewardship across the organization.
Financial Planning & Analysis:
  • Lead long‑term financial planning, annual budgeting, and monthly forecasting, ensuring alignment with VEIC’s strategic plan.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and forecasts; analyze variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and actionable financial and management reporting, including monthly and financial statements and key performance indicators.
  • Develop and utilize reporting and analytical tools to provide insight to support scenario planning and organizational decision making.
Financial Operations & Systems:
  • Provide strategic oversight of VEIC’s financial systems, ensuring they support operational excellence, scalability, strong internal controls, and high‑quality decision support.
  • Co‑lead organizational change through growth or shifts in funding models/contract procurement.
  • Ensure the maintenance of strong internal controls, financial policies, and procedures consistent with best practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and financial contract obligations.
  • Oversee financial review of major contracts and proposals to ensure appropriate risk management and financial viability.
  • Lead the annual independent audit process and maintain strong relationships with external auditors; ensure timely completion of audited financial statements and required tax filings.
  • Oversee organizational liquidity, including cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and treasury planning, to support financial stability and optimal use of resources.
