Volunteer Resident Manager – YIT Housing Program (Springfield, VT)
Position PurposeThe YIT Resident Manager supports the daily operation of a housing program for youth aged 18‑22 who need extra support to launch into adulthood. The role coordinates with HCRS and Springfield Housing Authority staff to ensure youth safety, program compliance, and development of independence. Perks include free rent, apartment within the YIT program, and free parking downtown.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties- Model positive attitudes and compassion, creating a learning culture.
- Monitor participant cooperative living and use of common areas.
- Maintain clean and orderly common areas; report maintenance issues to the SHA manager immediately.
- Enforce program rules (no drugs, alcohol, smoking/vaping, or overnight guests) and comply with them.
- Resolve conflicts and seek assistance from HCRS, crisis services, or law enforcement as needed.
- Report incidents involving drugs, violence, abuse or other illegal activity to law enforcement immediately; also report to HCRS and SHA staff.
- Convene house meetings as required.
- Maintain building security, ensuring entry doors are closed and locked.
- Foster good neighbor relationships and positive curb appeal.
- Coordinate curbside trash pickup and recycling with participants.
- Ensure parking rules, property inspections, and other property‑management rules are observed.
- Attend weekly team meetings with HCRS and/or SHA staff and participants.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Oversees YIT housing program after hours and when staff are absent, working with approximately four participants.

- Experience launching into adulthood or completion of a similar program.
- Compassion and respect for participants, families, and service providers.
- Ability to set appropriate boundaries with self and others.
- Strong collaboration with other agencies.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed care.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creativity in responding to diverse participant needs.
- Accurate and objective reporting of information.
- Emotional regulation during stressful situations.
- Commitment to professional growth.
- Adherence to all agency and program rules and expectations.
- Supervised by the area manager; collaborates closely with the YIT case manager.
- Works with HCRS and SHA to ensure participant safety, development, and continuity of care.
- Stable, responsible and reliable.
- Resident of the program site.
- Own personal telephone.
- Compliance with house rules and confidentiality requirements.
- Eligibility for income/schooling qualification.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Compensation: rent‑free apartment within YIT program and free parking.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 1–2 years’ experience in mental health or related field.
- CPR, CPR‑I, and First Aid training.
- Tasks include standing, walking, sitting, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
- Work environment: independent living program with apartments and common spaces.
- Exposure to intense situations possible.
- Noise level: quiet to moderate.
