A community-centered energy leader is seeking a hands‑on Forester to manage wood fuel procurement for one of Vermont’s most established biomass power plants. This role sits at the intersection of forestry, regulatory compliance, and supplier partnership. You’ll own the full lifecycle of timber harvest planning, state approvals, and on‑the‑ground oversight. You’ll spend most of your time in the field evaluating logging sites and working directly with loggers, balanced with reporting, planning, and coordination from home or the plant.
This is an ideal role for a licensed Vermont Forester who values independence, enjoys being outdoors, and wants to play a critical role in renewable energy production. They are looking for a self‑directed, field‑oriented forester who is comfortable owning their territory, building relationships, and ensuring every acre harvested meets Vermont’s forestry standards.
- Procure and manage wood fuel supply for biomass power generation
- Develop timber harvest plans and submit regulatory notifications to the State of Vermont
- Ensure full compliance with Vermont harvesting policies, permits, and forestry best practices
- Inspect forest sites to evaluate harvestability and biomass suitability
- Serve as the primary liaison between loggers, suppliers, and state regulators
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure harvesting follows approved plans
- Maintain accurate documentation for wood sourcing, inventory, and compliance reporting
- Coordinate with plant operations on wood quality and delivery requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with ~20 core suppliers and broader producer network
- Prepare required reports and submissions to state agencies
- Valid Vermont Forester License
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively throughout Vermont forests
- Forestry experience, including work with logging operations, state agencies, or private forestry organizations
- Comfort working independently and managing a self‑directed schedule
- Ability to traverse forested terrain in all weather conditions and lift to 50 lbs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of forestry regulations, harvest planning, and compliance processes
- Proficiency with basic computer tools
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry from an SAF‑accredited program preferred
- Experience working directly with loggers, suppliers, or public‑sector forestry agencies preferred
- Prior involvement with timber harvest planning and regulatory submissions preferred
- Company vehicle provided, with gas and maintenance fully covered
- Company credit card for business expenses
- Hybrid, flexible schedule with self‑managed time
- PTO starting at 120 hours annually
- Medical insurance with 80% employer‑paid premiums
- 401(k) with dollar‑for‑dollar match up to 3%
