The Essex Experience and Eurowest Properties are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our finance and administrative team in a small-office setting in Essex, VT. The Controller works hand-in-hand with CEO and owner of all the associated companies in a collaborate way. The Essex Experience is a large family of Vermont entrepreneurs and like minded staff and the Controller has interaction with all of them.
DutiesThe Controller will have the following responsibilities and expectations:
Supervisory responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead the finance team responsible for the financial and operational administration for 12 owner-affiliated companies including a retail plaza, two movie cinemas, a music venue, real estate consulting company, art gallery, salon, and multiple holding companies
- Oversee, audit, and troubleshoot transactional work done by the finance team including daily sales and revenue, invoices, payables and W-9 collection, bank deposits, etc
- Develop and improve financial processes, evolve workload distributions, and ensure accuracy, auditability, and transparency
- Complete loan, grant, and credit card applications and modifications
- Respond to all financial information and reporting requests and audit tracking requirements
- Track loan and debt balances and ensure timely payments
- Oversee all company bank accounts, monthly bank reconciliations and quarterly inventory entries
- Submit monthly and quarterly Sales, Use, Meals, and Rooms taxes
- Administer annual closing of all company books and assist CPA firm with annual tax return preparations
- Ad hoc financial reports, Excel spreadsheets, research, and requests from owner and company managers
Minimum of seven years of bookkeeping and accounting experience with an understanding of accounting principles, GAAP compliance, Quickbooks, and basic Excel formulas and formatting are essential.
Minimum of three years of supervisory experience preferred.
Experience with commercial real estate is highly advantageous.
Qualified applicants must have impeccable attention to detail and the ability to self-motivate, multi-task, and ask questions. Good communication and team spirit are key in our office.
Pay rate will be dependent upon qualifications and experience, with hours and scheduling negotiable for the right candidate.
