Overview
We are seeking two Technical Apprentices to each work an estimated 800 hours over 16 weeks and perform tasks in support of our Federal Highway Work Program and to maintain compliance with Federal Clean Water Act NPDES Permits.
Responsibilities- Use mobile GIS applications and work as a team to inspect and map drainage features.
- Test water samples at outfalls along our roadways and on VTrans owned land.
- Traverse rough terrain alongside the state highway for long durations of time.
- Operate Microsoft Suite and navigate using a mobile device such as an iPad.
- Carry out statewide inspection work throughout the VTrans network.
- Stations in Berlin, VT out of the Dill Building.
This position, AOT Technical Apprentice IV (Job Req #54503), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a temporary position with variable hours and is not guaranteed 40 hours per week.

Environmental FactorsDuties are generally performed in both an office and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, construction sites, rough terrain, and bodies of water in all weather conditions. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough wooded and steep terrain, travel in boats, or work on structures above ground level, and may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications- Two (2) or more years of college coursework in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Three (3) or more years of work experience in civil, construction, or environmental engineering, or a related field.
- Coursework in engineering, construction management, or a related technical field.
A current, valid driver's license is required, and transportation may be required for field assignments.
