Job Description

Position Summary

The HSMS General Special Educator provides specially designed instruction and case management for students with disabilities in grades 7–12. The educator ensures students can access the general education curriculum through collaboration, targeted instruction, data‑driven decision‑making, and compliance with state and federal special education regulations. This role works closely with general educators, families, related service providers, and administrators to ensure each student receives FAPE in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide specially designed instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Support students in inclusive, resource, and small‑group instructional settings.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and evidence‑based instructional strategies.
  • Deliver instruction in academic skills, executive functioning, organization, and self‑advocacy as appropriate.
  • Monitor progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction based on student data.
Case Management & Compliance
  • Serve as case manager for assigned students.
  • Develop, implement, and revise IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including progress reports, service logs, and required records.
  • Prepare for and facilitate IEP, eligibility, and reevaluation meetings.
  • Collaborate with evaluators and related service providers during referral and assessment processes.
Collaboration & Teaming
  • Partner with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co‑planning.
  • Consult with families to support student growth and understanding of services.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, paraprofessionals, and service providers.
  • Support transitions between middle and high school, and contribute to post‑secondary planning as appropriate.
School & Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in professional learning, team meetings, and school‑wide initiatives.
  • Maintain high expectations for student learning, behavior, and independence.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture.
  • Adhere to all school, district, and state policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid state certification/licensure in Special Education (7–12 or equivalent).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred or required by state).
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working at both middle and high school levels.
  • Experience with inclusive or co‑teaching models.
  • Familiarity with MTSS, PBIS, and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning profiles, including executive functioning needs.
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Instruction occurs in general education classrooms, small groups, and resource settings.
  • Regular use of technology for documentation, communication, and instruction.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student‑centered practices is essential.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $49,539 to $98,459 Per Year
