Head Start Preschool Teacher – Addison County Early Learning Center

Program Overview

Head Start is a federally‑funded national child and family development program that provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement and include parent leadership and social service supports.

Type & Compensation

Full‑time. 40 hours per week, approximately 42 weeks per year (summer layoff). Cash rate: $22.81–$28.75 per hour during the post‑probationary period (probationary rate: $22.81–$27.26 per hour depending on credentials). Health plan and excellent benefits.

Responsibilities

As a Head Start Preschool Teacher, you will lead or co‑teach in an outcomes‑oriented team environment, providing a safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environment and experiences for children ages 3–5. You will improve the trajectory of children’s lives, including their learning outcomes, living standards, and later academic and professional success.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Vermont educator’s license with early childhood education endorsement preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice, child outcome assessment, child behavior management, and curriculum planning, development, and implementation.
  • A commitment to social justice and to working with families with limited financial resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (bilingual abilities a plus).
  • Documentation, record‑keeping skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable transportation.
  • Physical ability to carry out required tasks.
