Assistant Professor of Restorative Justice
The Schools of Arts and Communication & Education, Psychology and Social Sciences at Vermont State University (VTSU) invites applications for a one-year, terminal Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2026. This position follows the Vermont State Colleges & Faculty Federation Collective Bargaining Agreement and is renewable as per those terms.
ResponsibilitiesTeaching four undergraduate courses per semester in core restorative justice courses that serve the Restorative Justice degree and supplement the Criminal Justice degree. Core courses include:
Principles of Restorative Justice, Circle Processes, Families and Restorative Justice, Restorative Justice and Schools, and other upper-level restorative justice courses. The position requires oversight of student internships and senior thesis projects in both degree programs. Other duties include advising students, engaging in scholarship activities, and serving the university and community.
- Ph.D. in a related social science or J.D. with relevant experience preferred; master’s degree with relevant experience required.
- University-level teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop significant restorative justice-specific curricular materials.
- Experience in restorative justice practices, including work in schools, communities, or the criminal justice system.
- Demonstrated success in advising and service activities.
- Evidence of, or potential for, an active research agenda focused on restorative justice.
The applicant should have familiarity with a wide range of restorative justice applications and be prepared to engage students in research and experiential learning opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate teaching effectiveness, the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues within and across departments, and maintain an active professional and scholarly life. All faculty are expected to contribute to program development and assessment.
SalaryThe minimum salary will be $57,500 plus benefits for the academic year, as defined by the VSC-VSCFF Bargaining Unit Agreement. FLSA is exempt.
