Two-Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian Middlebury College - Middlebury, VT
The Russian Department at Middlebury College announces an opening for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Russian beginning the Fall semester of 2026. Superior language proficiency in both Russian and English is required. The area of specialization for the position is open.
The successful candidate will primarily teach Russian language courses at all levels, from beginning to advanced, and potentially one content course in English. As part of a full teaching load, the candidate will also occasionally contribute to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings. Candidates must hold a PhD degree, and must have prior teaching experience in Russian at the college level, preferably in a liberal arts college setting.

In your application you should include a letter to the search committee focusing on your pedagogical approach to teaching Russian, your prior experience teaching Russian to nonnative speakers at the college level, non‑language courses you would be interested in teaching, and your research interests. - Up‑to‑date CV
- Syllabus for a Russian language class you previously taught at the first or second year level
- At least one syllabus of a non‑language class in English you previously taught or would like to teach in the future
- A confidential letter of recommendation addressing teaching ability to be submitted via Interfolio
Candidates who reach the preliminary interview stage will be asked to arrange for two additional confidential, updated letters of recommendation, at least one of which must speak to teaching ability, to be submitted directly by recommenders to Interfolio.
