Controller / Senior Accountant
A Community Bank is looking for a Sr Accountant / Controller to assist the CFO/President with the daily management of the Finance Department. Lincoln County, South Dakota.
The person hired for this Controller role will work directly with the CFO to support all areas of the Finance Department. Teamwork, attention to detail, and a positive attitude contributing to a fast-paced environment are must-haves for the interested candidates. This is NOT a remote position and only accountants with direct experience will be considered.

- Manages and maintains responsibility for General Ledger, Fixed Assets, and Prepaids functions.
- Oversight of other departments including a newly forming and expanding HR department
- Responsible for assisting with the preparation and filing of all regulatory reports including quarterly and annual regulatory reports.
- Manages the processes for reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial reporting items.
- Responsible for the preparation of daily and month‑end entries to the general ledger.
- Assumes responsibility for special projects assigned by the CFO.
- ALCO Reports, Board reports
- Research new accounting guidance and helps implement changes in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Assists in developing Finance Department policies and procedures and related documentation.
- Assists with internal and independent audit processes as required to ensure timely completion.
- Completes and submits tax forms 1099, use tax, and property tax assessments.
- Ensures compliance with Sarbanes Oxley internal controls over financial reporting requirements.
- Cross‑trains in additional functions of the department.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analyzing and reporting historical financial records to the company and stakeholders with complete accuracy. A collaborative style of communicating well with all support staff and peers is essential.
- Ability to create spreadsheets and work with regulators, department heads, vendors if needed to create reports
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to make decisions, take responsibility, while staying accountable to CFO CEO
- Bachelor's degree
- Masters, CPA or other certifications strongly desired
