The Department of the University of South Dakota (USD) invites applications for a 10‑month full‑time nursing faculty position serving as the Simulation and Laboratory Coordinator. This position will be based in Vermillion with travel required to Sioux Falls. The Simulation and Lab Coordinator plays a key leadership role in advancing high‑quality, evidence‑based simulation and skills‑lab learning experiences for nursing students. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

Simulation Leadership & Curriculum Development
  • Lead faculty and staff teams in optimizing the simulation and lab curriculum.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate simulation activities aligned with program outcomes.
  • Provide ongoing simulation training for faculty and staff.
  • Ensure all simulation experiences meet national and state standards and accreditation requirements.
Lab & Simulation Center Operations
  • Provide strategic oversight of the simulation and skills lab, including growth planning, quality improvement, and program evaluation.
  • Assist with daily operational needs of the simulation center and lab.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure learners demonstrate competency in required skills.
  • Coordinate ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Faculty Support & Professional Development
  • Offer guidance to faculty in simulation best practices.
  • Support faculty development related to simulation, debriefing, and lab instruction.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement across simulation and lab activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Current, unencumbered RN license and eligibility for licensure in South Dakota.
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program prior to starting the position.
  • Ability to travel between Vermillion and Sioux Falls.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in simulation curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of interprofessional education competencies.
  • Familiarity with simulation workflow processes and emerging best practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • National certification in simulation training.
  • Experience with simulation technologies, debriefing models, and lab management.
  • Strong nursing background with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and across departments.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Term: 10 months. Appointment Percent: 100%.

Work Hours:

8-5 Monday through Friday with occasional adjustment. Typical Hours Worked Per Week 40.
