Contract length will be directly related to the student schedule.
Purpose Statement:
To assist the teaching staff where possible so that students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Paraprofessional qualifications are required for this position
- Ability to speak clearly and with correct grammar
- Interest, desire, and ability to work with special needs students
- Ability to understand, accept and follow directions
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
- FBI and BCI background check with a clear record
- Hold a current Educational Aide Certification License or obtain a license
- Pass the Parapro Assessment Test.
- Complete and maintain specific professional development.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Assist with implementation of prescribed instruction, behavior management programs, and training techniques as directed.
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by the teacher.
- Provides educational, daily living and life skills assistance to students with special needs which may involve lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines.
- Assist as directed in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP team.
- Administer student medication upon direction by the principal and provided that Board Policy #5350 and #5331 have been followed.
- Communicate positively, professionally and effectively with verbal and non-verbal students, as well as co-workers, parents, school visitors and volunteers.
- Develop professional skills by attending in-service training sessions, team meetings, behavior conferences, etc.
- Maintain student and school confidentiality at all times.
- Use sound professional judgment in matters of team-building, decision-making, behavior management, communication, parent relationships, and staff relationships.
- Provide constructive feedback and suggestions to staff members regarding unsuccessful student tasks, projects or assignments and work cooperatively with staff members to correct student deficiencies.
- Assist the classroom teacher and/or supervisor with other responsibilities such as bulletin boards, teaching materials and student assignments.
- Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, or field trips.
- Assist with delivery of student items, such as clothing, lunches, money, notes, and school forms to appropriate locations.
- Submit required forms, documents, and time sheets as required by the administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal or his/her designee.
- Remain free of any alcohol or drug abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
Wages and work calendar to be according to the current Negotiated Agreement.
