JOB TITLE:

Civil Engineer - Land Development

LOCATION:

Ventura, CA SALARY RANGE: $95,000 - $125,000 POSITION SUMMARY

The Civil Engineer is responsible for providing consulting services to city clients in support of the planning, design, and construction of land development projects. This includes working with clients to understand their needs, performing peer review of land development project materials from entitlement phase through construction and final acceptance, including onsite and offsite grading and improvement plans, technical design reports for water, sewer, storm drain and fire flow, geotechnical reports, mapping and easement documents.

This individual must have a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, as well as the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage Land Development Project reviews, including initial application review, project conditioning, and plan check of improvement plans and reports for compliance with engineering standards, condition compliance and city client-specific formatting.
  • Coordinate land development plan check review between city departments.
  • Manage plan check workflow and oversee technical reviewers across multiple disciplines.
  • Attend weekly meetings with city staff to provide project updates.
  • Coordinate and review design change order requests for approved land development projects.
  • Provide support for project management of Capital Improvement Program services.
  • Perform quality control for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), including review, specifications and cost estimates.
  • Oversee project advertisement and bidding for construction through award of contract.
  • Prepare necessary staff reports and budget documents as requested by the city.
  • Review CIP design change orders during the construction process.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in land development.
  • Professional Engineer License (PE).
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and strong collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Blue Beam Revu and other engineering software.
  • Demonstrated success multitasking in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 inclusive of Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Well-versed in the full life cycles of land development projects and/or project management.
